A Bite a Day, keeps the doctors at Bay

Someone sent a mail with facts about bangalore and one among them was..."12 people are bitten by stray dogs every minute in bangalore". It remained as a fact for me, until one fine day, became a reality... Yup… a stupid dog tried to get a taste of my bones.
It was a very fine evening, I was returning early at 6:00 Pm, after attending a conference. Went to my house owner's residence, nearby to get the key, called him, he leaped from the 2nd floor and said he will bring the key, on my left side, the maid was walking the two while bushy haired "Angels" of Pomeranian type... I thought how cute... and they should have thought otherwise... he threw the key from there.. i was trying to catch it, I caught the key and so did one of the dog, it caught my knee. In a reflex I hit it with the helmet which I was holding in the other hand. You know... the events happened next was making me wondering.
I was actually bleeding because of the bite, the dog ran with its usual squeaks after I hit that, and the maid instead of making the dogs go inside or anything, she was actually consoling the dog by padding its back!! and the house owner on top, asked me without moving from where he was, whether I was bleeding and when I said yes, he said, its only a minor wound and so take antiseptic ointment and nothing more to be done. No sorry, no consoling or apology words.. Just said that his dog is vaccinated so don’t worry about rabies etc!!!???
Actually, I can understand the behavior of dogs, yes, it has the behavior to bite, but what about human behavior, don't they actually have to apologize for what happened? at least try to see how bad was the wound? at least for formality, shouldn’t they ask if I need any help? NONE whatsoever I received from them. Ya.. you know sometimes men can be worse than beast. But this does not mean that I am generalizing human behavior, or lost faith on the honest and politeness. But this incident certainly made me wonder for sometime, whether my principles might be wrong? does helping nature, polite and honest are the words of past? I don't want to predict, cause I am afraid, if without these things, how the world will be?At the end, I din't want to take chances, so immediately went to nursing home and put on TT, Rabies Vaccination etc. which cost me a grand, and the nurse said, once you put TT injection, it is effective for 6 months... "Hurray so I can get hurt for 6 whole months without worrying about infection… Certainly looking ahead for that..."
